Thiess Rehabilitation Group Manager James Anderson is presenting at this year’s International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Sydney from 2-4 November. 

James will be presenting in the Mine Closure, Rehabilitation & Repurpose session, and as part of the panel, Talk it Forward Dialogue – Putting the Purpose in Repurpose – How Can We Improve Post-Mining Legacies? 

The topics covered during these sessions include “Progressing ESG and Strengthening Social Value” and “Embracing Digital Technology and Mining Innovation”. 

In his presentation, “The sustainability opportunity for our industry”, James will outline opportunities that land rehabilitation present for the mining industry by taking a long-term strategic view, including: 

  • The sustainability opportunity for our industry 
  • Addressing ESG and biodiversity requirements 
  • Reducing financial liability 

“Mine rehabilitation is not about box-ticking. There is a real opportunity for our industry to consider smarter rehabilitation solutions and use technology to develop low-cost, smart solutions that deliver better landform and biodiversity outcomes,” says James.

Before launching Thiess Rehabilitation, James led Thiess’ environmental and civil team, overseeing the development and delivery of more than 500 hectares of rehabilitation each year across Australia and Indonesia.
