Project update: Ensham mine rehabilitation – ongoing achievements

18 June 2024

Thiess Rehabilitation’s Ensham Rehabilitation Project, near Emerald in central Queensland, continues to achieve successful progressive rehabilitation for its Client, Sungela Pty Ltd (Ensham Resources Pty Ltd).

Since the project began in September 2022, over 330 hectares of mined land has been profiled to design. Additionally, more than 180 hectares has been topsoiled and pasture-seeded to achieve a grazing end-land use since the project commenced.

Site Manager Jeff Pattel said, “We’re pleased with the progress we’re making on site. Our team has continued to work closely with our client and industry partners to do so. They’ve delivered the work safely and efficiently.”

About the project

In partnership with Sungela’s (formerly Idemitsu Australia’s) Ensham Resources, Thiess Rehabilitation is delivering mine rehabilitation solutions at Ensham Coal Mine that create areas for cattle grazing.

The earthworks align with the project’s Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan (PRCP) and include final landform development, topsoil spreading and amelioration, and seeding and mulching activities.

This project showcases Thiess Rehabilitation’s excellence in design optimisation and rehabilitation services, including using drone technology for survey and seeding.
